Synopsis Who will be selected to go? How does the team dynamic function? What are the personal dreams and dramas, on and off the field? One member wants to have a baby, another grapples with a debilitating knee injury, still another must make a choice between career demands and her dedication to the team. The spirit of ultimate reflects certain aspects inherent in Japanese culture. Because the game is played without referees, players rely on sportsmanship, mutual respect and strict adherence to rules, even as they are fiercely competitive. Does this reverence for team unity lead to the Japanese women being able to consistently win? What is their secret? How do they train? Is there something symbolic in these young Japanese women that resonates for the nation, even the world, as they simultaneously embrace both the feminine (the game is stunningly graceful), and the masculine (power, competition, strength). “ULTIMATE WOMAN” ultimately asks the question: what does it take to stay on top? |
